Showing a representation of A Barramundi fish this authentic Aboriginal painting has been turned into a puzzle to help teach an appreciation of the First Australians and their culture. It is a raised tray puzzle which means the pieces are raised above the background to help with easier manipulation and being a whole picture image the pieces and shapes vary throughout the puzzle giving an extra challenge.
Raised Piece Puzzles are the next step after Pegs. The puzzle pieces are raised higher than the frame background which allows small fingers to easily manipulate the pieces. This extends fine motor development. Puzzles help children to develop a range of skills. These include visual motor skills, proprioception, vestibular, tactile and fine motor. These skills are all pre-reading essentials and are extremely important in early childhood development.
