Counting Caterpillar is a wooden floor puzzle depicting a brightly coloured caterpillar with sections in different colours. In each section is a Raised piece with the numbers 1 to 10 printed on them. These numbers are put into the puzzle after it has been assembled and the student has to arrange them into their correct order. A great way to teach basic counting and to also see if the student is understanding the correct order of the numbers.
When piecing together a floor puzzle, children need to maintain balance, stretch and move to complete the picture. All this helps them with their balance, their vestibular development while also expanding on their motor development skills. The large chunky pieces are great to grab and with a few children involved can result in many hours of fun. Choose puzzles with themes that interest the child, no matter how complex or how simple the design, just “doing” the puzzle and completing the task will help the child to learn the concepts they need on their individual journey to reach their full potential.
