An Aboriginal Art wooden Floor Puzzle of Honey Ants makes an extremely difficult challenge. The pieces are cut into perfect squares so orientation of the pieces is an important factor in completing the puzzle. The outside frame has also been cut into sections and is assembled before the Ants as it makes a frame to contain the perfectly cut pieces.
When piecing together a floor puzzle, children need to maintain balance, stretch and move to complete the picture. All this helps them with their balance, their vestibular development while also expanding on their motor development skills. The large chunky pieces are great to grab and with a few children involved can result in many hours of fun. Choose puzzles with themes that interest the child, no matter how complex or how simple the design, just “doing” the puzzle and completing the task will help the child to learn the concepts they need on their individual journey to reach their full potential.
